Musselburgh has requested special permission to stage their Cheltenham Trials Day prior to the Cheltenham Festival 2019
. It's the most significant NH fixture on the East Lothian track.
Due to the recent equine influenza outbreak as well as the awful weather, this fixture faced two postponements already. It was arranged last February 10th, with a record-breaking prize money of more than £165,000 for a single day. But with the BHA putting the horse racing industry under lockdown for almost a week, this event didn't push through.
With the lockdown now lifted, the folks at Musselburgh are hoping to stage the Cheltenham Racing Trials again after all being postponed several times. Racecourse boss Bill Farnsworth revealed that the British Horseracing Authority had promised to assist in this affair by guaranteeing to deliver additional opportunities in the future. However, they are simply supplying more races to a number of cards as of now.
Farnsworth also reported that the British Horseracing Authority has accepted to stage the event on February 23rd because the horses that went through vaccination will be allowed to join. If their request for a substitute race can be pushed through on February 22nd, Musselburgh can offer their best shot for the Cheltenham Festival Trials. Additionally, it's also a tremendous help for them because the northern region missed a couple of fixtures already.
According to Farnsworth, the Trial Races is an important aspect in preparing for the yearly Cheltenham Festival 2019 which is attended by a lot of people.
